Purple Fever Spreads Abroad!

February 10, 2013
Scott Gunn

Yesterday, we shared some Lent Madness buzz that we noticed on the interwebs. Today we thought we'd share the excitement that's building for Lent Madness in the form of Purple Fever. Make sure you tell all your friends to tune in on Ash Thursday (February 14) to vote in Lent Madness 2013!

Top Ten Signs of Purple Fever

10. People are eating purple food.

9. Large crowds are forming. We don't know if the guy in front is "blowing up the trumpet in Zion" per the Ash Wednesday readings, or trying to get the crowd to sing the Lent Madness theme music.

8. New York City is taking Purple Fever to the sky.

7. At least one member of the Supreme Executive Committee regularly uses a purple bridge.

6. People have started wearing purple hats to show their enthusiasm for Lent Madness. Others actually wear purple shirts.

4. Despite what you might hear about red and blue states, the United States is actually a purple nation.

3. Here's a whole book of praise and worship. We assume this is praise of purple.

2. Archbishop Rowan Williams was such a fan that he not only wore purple, but actually retired as ABC to be master of Magdalene College, named for the winner of the Golden Halo in Lent Madness 2012. Coincidence? Of course not. Here he is pictured greeting the Queen: "Your Majesty, I humbly suggest that you vote regularly in Lent Madness and perhaps wear more purple."

1. Churches are apparently abandoning the traditional red door in order to greet worshipers with the joy of Lent Madness.

  1. I realized that I was not au current with my purpleness so I now have an excuse to buy a purple sweater (Baby, it's cold outside!!!) LOL

  2. I really love the purple church door. Lent Madness has taken the somberness away from the color Purple. It's now the happening color. I'm going to look for purple carrots in the gracery store.

  3. Before retiring from teaching (the job that paid the bills!), I always wore purple on Thursdays and chastised those who didn't do likewise. After retiring, I heard that a teacher at that school had on some other color one Thursday and was told by an "old" teacher, "Don't you know you're supposed to wear purple on Thursday?" and was told by the offender, "She's retired! We don't have to do that anymore!" PURPLE POWER !!!!!

  4. I received a Purple brief case for Christmas.

Please note the the bridge you picture is the Purple People Bridge over the Ohio River!

  5. What! No mention of wine. Jesus made it from water, we serve it during the Eucharist and many of us drink it for both its health benefits and to help us get through the madness that is Lent Madness. Come on SEC, why the obvious snub of this most beneficial and dare I say possibly blessed beverage?
